SOP is sulphate of potash, a fast-acting, granular fertiliser ideally suited for use in intensive cropping situations, where crop yield and quality are of paramount concern.
SOP supplies two key plant nutrients - potassium and sulphur. The potassium in SOP is highly water soluble and once in the soil rapidly changes to the cation form, which can be taken up by plants. Unlike some other concentrated forms of potassium, SOP has a low chloride content - just 0.8%, compared to 50% in muriate of potash. This means it is ideal for use on chloride-sensitive crops. The sulphur in SOP is in the plant-available sulphate form, which means it is rapidly available for plant uptake. SOP has a relatively low salt index (46), which makes it ideal for use on salt-sensitive crops and in greenhouse situations, where soil salt levels can rise quickly if not well managed.
SOP is suitable for use either on its own or in combination with other products. Free-flowing, even-sized granules promote even spread and uniform plant growth. The non-hygroscopic nature of SOP means it can be easily blended with a range of base fertilisers to achieve the perfect nutrient blend for your crops. SOP is typically used as a side-dressing on avocados (80-150 kg/ha) and kiwifruit (100 kg/ha). It can also be used as a base dressing for berries (80-120 kg/ha), grapes (80-150 kg/ha), kiwifruit (80-350 kg/ha) and potatoes (200-350 kg/ha).
