Fert reps muck in

Ballance fertiliser technical sales representatives are showing their support for snow-affected farmers in the lower South Island region by offering them a hand, literally.

‘Clearly, this is not a time to be making a sales call about their next plant nutrient application, so some of our reps are showing their support in a more practical sense, doing whatever is needed on the day to help out on farm,’ says South Island Sales Manager Garth Dawson.

‘This might mean moving ewes to safer ground or feeding out to stock, or simply clearing some snow. It’s good to feel like we can be of use to our farmer shareholders at a time in need.

‘It’s a close-to-home experience for our staff, as many of our technical sales representatives have family members farming in this region who have been affected by the snow.’

Once fertiliser is topical again, the New Zealand farmer owned co-operative is also offering to help out with the differing needs of farmers on an individual basis.

Any farmer affected by the snow is encouraged to give their local technical sales representative a call on 0800 222 090 to work out a plan that meets their needs.

Ballance has also made a contribution of $40,000 to the Federated Farmers Adverse Events Trust, which is earmarked for relief labour and stock feed for those farms in most need, and has donated funds to the Hokonui Gold Farming Show Snow Relief Promotion, aimed at cheering up farmers badly affected by the adverse weather conditions.
