Ballance in the community
Ballance is firmly committed to supporting a number of initiatives within the wider farming community. We believe that a thriving agricultural community can only exist with the support of all who live and work in it, and as a result, we invest both time and money to help secure the future of New Zealand farmers.
Our involvement in the rural community occurs on many fronts. One of the most prominent is our support of the Ballance Farm Environment Awards. Aimed at recognising the achievements of those who farm with respect for the environment, these awards started in 1993, and have grown every year since. Ballance has been the naming rights sponsor since 2002, and many of the company's employees are involved in the judging process.
Ballance also sponsors a variety of regional activities and events with a farming focus. We support a number of industry conferences and monitor and research farms around the country. Conferences offer an excellent opportunity for information sharing, between scientists, industry representatives and farmers. Monitor farms and research farms help generate advances in practical farming knowledge that has the potential to benefit the wider community.
Our investment in the agricultural community is not limited to existing farmers, however. We also have an interest in the farmers of tomorrow. The Ballance scholarship programme was established in 2002 with the aim of assisting talented individuals through their tertiary education. It is open to the immediate family members of Ballance shareholders and staff, who are undertaking education in an agricultural or engineering subject.
