Ballance Agri-Nutrients Ltd is a 100-percent New Zealand farmer-owned co-operative with around 18,500 shareholders throughout the nation. As one of New Zealand's top 100 businesses, Ballance aims for peak performance both in the field and on the bottom line. As a 100 percent farmer-owned co-operative, we aim to share our success, growing our shareholders' investment as we grow the business.
The co-operative structure of Ballance means the governance of the company is overseen by a Board of Directors. This board comprises ten directors, two of whom are appointed to the role, while the other eight are elected by shareholders.
Elected directors represent one of four wards - A, B, C or D. Ward A covers Northland and north Waikato. Ward B covers the western districts south of northern Waikato, Ward C covers the eastern districts of the North Island and Ward D covers the South Island. Each ward has two elected directors.
Each year, at least two elected directors must retire by rotation. These directors are eligible to stand for re-election. If the seats are contested, then at election time ballot papers are sent out to all Ballance shareholders, whose vote allocation depends on their shareholding status.
